OPEN EDUCATION
Whole Child to Whole Community

"To consider the school as the place where instruction is given is one point of view. But to consider the school as a preparation for life is another. In the latter case the school must satisfy all the needs of life."

-Dr. Maria Montessori

Open Education is the very cornerstone of strong, interconnected communities. Its is an approach to education grounded in openness that promotes lifelong learning and encourages independent  and critical thinking.

Blu Sky Initiative will right the future FOR education. FOR being an acronym indicative of being future ready now, open classrooms employing open way learning in outdoor and community settings, all with real life applications.

Blu Sky Initiative's Open Education concept is inspired by connections to a variety of educational philosophies and movements, including Montessori, Open Way Learning, E-STEAM, and One Stone.

MONTESSORI METHOD

Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process.

E-STEAM

We must teach students that the science, math, and technology skills that are essential for becoming 21st Century citizens are deeply integrated within the activities of entrepreneurship and agriculture, as well as language, music, and visual arts.

Our philosophy of education is built upon the idea that all learners - both young and old - need to be exposed to a broad array of rich learning experiences.

OPEN-WAY LEARNING

Open Way Learning is based on collective leadership, systemic collaboration, open sharing, and a willingness to adopt and sustain innovative teaching and learning practices.

ONE STONE APPROACH

Focused on a growth mindset, One Stone believes that community is intrinsic to learning and focuses on four key areas of learning: mindset, creativity, skills, and knowledge.
